While speaking at an international photographic convention in China, I took some free time to photograph the surrounding area. I took a taxi to the local Temple of Confucius to explore.
While there, I saw this man in deep meditation. The sun was at the perfect angle, coming in from behind, for a dramatic portraiture style of lighting on the face called “short light.” With his chin raised, and hand momentarily in the right position, he was perfectly framed by the tall pillars rising upwards with his meditative thoughts.
